Women's Senior League: Asfordby Amateurs maintain strong start

Asfordby Amateurs took a deserved point from an entertaining encounter at Leicester Fosse to remain fourth in the Leicestershire Senior Women's League.

They started positively, putting the home team under pressure and limiting them to just one shot on target in the first half.

However, the goals just wouldn’t come despite some excellent attacking play from Kat Plimmer, Sarah Milner and Hannah Green.

The second half was a different story as Fosse took the lead early on.

Hannah Green won a penalty when she was clipped in the area and Tara Brookes calmly slotted home from the spot.

The game became more stretched with end-to-end play, and it was Fosse who took the lead from a penalty which just evaded Ellie Robert’s gloves.

But Sarah Brown earned the point with a rare headed goal late on.

Despite pressure from the home team, Asfordby’s defence stood firm, with defenders Brookes, Abbie Roberts, Kira Hutton, Hannah Tyman and player-of-the-match Clare Marlow all excellent.
