A Melton punter has scooped a whopping £116,000 from the bookies after betting just £5 on a football accumulator bet.
George Wood (22) had placed an ambitious 10-team accumulator at the end of September, needing Manchester City to beat Bournemouth on Saturday and both teams to score to land his jackpot. The game ended in a 5-1 win for City.
George was so confident he was going to hit the big time he bought a brand new car prior to Saturday’s crucial football results.
He said: “I just knew I was going to win. I had that gut feeling, so I went ahead and ordered the new car regardless because I knew it was going to happen. I didn’t get to sleep until 4am, it’s crazy but I’m over the moon.”
It’s the first time George has won big, however he’s been incredibly close in the past, landing 17 out of 20 correct results just a couple of months ago.
He added: “There was something different with this accumulator, everything kept going right. But I’m never doing it again over a few weeks, that was a killer waiting for Man City to win.
“I thought Celtic or PSG might let me down, but once they were through I knew it was my time.”
The Leicester City fan has recently been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and, after quitting his job as a stonemason, the win couldn’t have come at a better time.
George said: “I’m putting the money to good use by paying off my mum’s debts, buying a house, and then heading off on a luxury holiday to Mexico. I plan to set up my own business and invest in the stock market.”
Jessica Bridge, of Ladbrokes, said: “George has the patience of a saint and his mammoth win really just shows that good things come to those who wait.
“We couldn’t be happier that he’s won a life-changing amount of money and we’re paying out with a big smile.”
George’s £5.05 bet won him a total of £116,425.35.
