Melton Mowbray begin their latest bid for the Leics Senior League crown with a midweek kick-off.

They travel to Rothley on Tuesday for their opening Premier Division clash (ko 7.30pm), determined to go one better on the runners-up spot they have occupied for the last two seasons.

They finish their preparations against high calibre opposition with a friendly against Boston United Under 21s tonight at Cottesmore (kick-off 7.30pm).

Melton are expected to face a few first team players from the National League North club. Entry is £3, and £2 for parents with children who get in free.

Manager Matt Curtis and Cliff Thornton have retained the nucleus of the squad which has gone so close in recent campaigns.

Leon Fray has left for reigning East Midlands Counties League champions Bardon Hill, but Ash Palfreyman has decided to stay.

They have also added James Hollis, Ben Lapworth and Liam Ambrose, from Asfordby, and Shannon Myring, from Queniborough.
