AFTER a couple of weak defensive performances, Melton brought in the experience of Grant and Newton to shore things up.

In a tight first half of few chances for either side, Love seemed to have beaten the offside trap only for the Caterpillar linesman to think differently.

After the break, Melton made a change to their formation, going to a 3-5-2 with Newton moving into midfield alongside the hard-working Mann and Wilford.

Midway through the half, the lively Lightbown’s strike crossed the line, but was denied by the referee who did not see it. Soon after Mann’s cross found Love whose glancing header beat the keeper for 1-0.

Melton continued to work hard and were rewarded when Newton’s powerful low strike from just outside the area found the net.

Caterpillar wouldn’t lie down and pulled one back immediately, but Melton hung on to complete the double over their opponents.
