Melton avenged their narrow defeat to Loughborough earlier in the season with an eight-goal demolition.

Loughborough caught Melton off-guard from kick-off and took the lead after just 16 seconds.

An end-to-end opening 20 minutes saw both goalkeepers heavily involved with Maddocks on top form with a string of saves.

Melton started to build momentum and created a few chances before Franklin found Dilks who finished neatly to equalise.

The game remained open with chances created at both ends with Fowkes clearing an effort off the line with her head to keep the scores level.

Melton were attacking more and starting to dominate possession. From Fletcher’s in-swinging corner, the ball rebounded to Franklin who placed the ball into the net.

Mowbray were on the attack and were awarded a free kick when Franklin was brought down after being put through by a lovely pass from Watts.

Fletcher stepped up and found the net with a beautiful free kick which left the goalkeeper helpless.

Melton didn’t want to step off the gas and Franklin took on the keeper to make it 4-1 at half-time.

The home side started the second half quicker and Franklin completed her hat-trick within three minutes of the restart.

Pattison and Thornhill both worked hard down the flanks, and Watts was supplying Franklin and Dilks with great service into the box. Hurst took a quick, short corner with Franklin and the cross caught Loughborough’s defence by surprise, allowing Fletcher to nod home Melton’s sixth goal.

Tait then found Franklin who ran on, and after a one-two with Hurst, added her fourth of the game.

Melton were not finished yet, and when Coupland’s pass found North, she played in Franklin who teed up Hurst for the hosts’ final goal.

Mowbray made a few changes and switched off for a brief spell, gifting Loughborough the consolation of a second goal.
