Holwell Sports set for stiff County Cup semi-final test

Midlands Football League side Heather St John’s stand in their way, and the pair will meet in the second semi-final on Tuesday at Aylestone Park FC (kick-off 7.30pm).

Leicester Road will await the winners in the final after they defeated Lutterworth Town 4-0 in the first semi-final on Tuesday evening.

John Webster’s side will go into the match on a good run of form with four wins from their last five matches in the East Midlands Counties League.

Heather last lifted the cup just six seasons ago and sit eighth in Division One of their league after stopping a run of three straight defeats with a 1-0 win on Saturday.

Holwell defeated Melton Town 3-1 in the quarter-finals in December and last reached the final in the 1999/2000 season when they were beaten in the final by Coalville Town.

The final takes place at the Leicestershire and Rutland FA’s Holmes Park headquarters on Tuesday, May 2.
