Holwell Sports face a crunch match this weekend after falling to their 10th league defeat of the season on Saturday.

John Webster’s side turned in an improved performance from their chastening 8-3 defeat at Arnold seven days earlier, but were pipped 2-1 by sixth-placed Kimberley Miners Welfare at Welby Road.

Holwell found themselves in a familiar position when they fell behind seven minutes into the second half to Lee Day’s great strike.

But Sports were deservedly level on the hour when Mark Tinsley claimed his third goal of the season.

Yet any hopes of chasing down just their second league win of the season were dashed seven minutes later when captain Sean Green beat Jordan Lawrance from the penalty spot.

It was hard on the home side who tested Kimberley keeper Joss Hourd-Lee enough for the visitors to name him as their man-of-the-match.

Next up for Holwell is Radcliffe Olympic on Saturday in an East Midlands Counties League battle of the basement as the hosts go looking for their first win since mid-August.

The match brings the return of a familiar face to Welby Road in long-time former Holwell boss Simon Daws, now in charge of the Nottinghamshire strugglers.

Radcliffe have picked up just four points this season, three fewer than Holwell, but their two positive results have come in their last five matches.

The match kicks off at 3pm.
