ASFORDBY warmed up for Saturday’s derby clash with Melton in spectacular fashion, putting bottom side Donington to the sword at Hoby Road.
It was the second meeting between the two sides in a week after Amateurs’ convincing 5-1 away win in the Beacon Bitter Cup seven days earlier.
And Asfordby were in even more dominant mood as they bossed the game from the first whistle and took a 5-0 lead into the half-time break.
And things got worse for the visitors in the second half as Ben Ireland completed his second successive hat-trick to help Asfordby add eight more goals to their tally after the break.
Ben Lapworth, Liam Ambrose, Lee Spridgen and Tommy Kirkpatrick all scored twice, while individual strikes from Simon Snow and Luke Smith completed the rout.
Asfordby’s second win of the season took Frank Fitzgibbons’ side two places up to 10th, but they will face a much tougher examination at Melton in the first of this season’s derby meetings on Saturday.
Melton, under joint managers Matt Curtis and Cliff Thornton, are gunning for promotion up to the Premier and lie fifth with four wins from six games.
Kick-off at the All England Ground is 3pm.
