Brownlow School were crowned champions last Thursday as a successful girls’ football league drew to a close.

Swallowdale Primary School hosted the final meeting of this season’s Melton and District Primary Schools Girls’ Football League, organised by Asfordby Amateurs Ladies, Girls and Inclusive Football Club. Teachers, parents and supporters were treated to close and exciting games.

The league was made up of two teams from Brownlow, Swallowdale and Stathern, as well as one each from St Mary’s and Grove.

League organiser Jim Reason: said “The league had been a tremendous success and resulted in more than 20 girls coming along to their club’s weekly coaching sessions. We plan to start the league again next season in April and build on the success when hopefully we will have even more local schools entering.”

* Any girls interested in football can join AALGIFC weekly coaching sessions – the first is free. They meet at Asfordby Acres, Hoby Road on Wednesdays from 6-7pm and Long Clawson Recreation Ground on Thursdays from 5.30 to 6.30pm.
