Asfordby Amateurs have been forced to fold just 10 days before the start of the new Leicestershire Senior League season.

Just 13 players showed up to sign on at a registration night on Tuesday evening, two short of the minimum squad number required by the league.

Amateurs were rocked last week by the resignation of managers Will Andrew and Nigel Shaw, and player departures forced chairman Ian Wakefield and secretary Chris Gamble to call it quits.

Chris told the Melton Times they hope to reform the club at district league level next season if there is enough interest.

The club began life in 1972 and moved to their present home at Hoby Road in 1986.
