Asfordby open with high-scoring draw as Hill hits four

Asfordby FC Lions Under 15s travelled to Fleckney for the first game of the season on Sunday and within three minutes were off the mark.

Saffhill cleared the ball over the top from midfield for Hill who outran the defence and placed the ball in the top corner.

Herod, Jolliffe and London dealt with a Fleckney attack, and from Cook’s clearance, Hill set off towards goal and shot low between the keeper’s legs to double the lead.

Asfordby keeper Wade controlled his area, well clearing a Fleckney long ball, while Digby and McCafferty worked hard in midfield.

Addy then controlled and turned to put Hill through for his hat-trick goal.

With half-time looming, Fleckney hit back with a goal from a corner.

The home side laid siege to the Asfordby goal after the break and eventually pulled another goal back.

Hewkin and McCracken were brought on and were soon in the thick of the action as Asfordby looked to thwart a rejuvenated Fleckney.

Hill, Digby and Addy all went close, but to no avail, while Cook turned the ball into the net only to be judged offside.

The defence of Wallis, London and Herod were constantly under pressure and Wade punched clear after yet another attack, but the hosts equalised from a corner.

With pressure mounting, Asfordby found themselves behind for the first time in the match as Fleckney made it 4-3.

Jolliffe moved up into midfield alongside Saffhill, and was soon clearing another attack. But the visitors had the final say when a ball out to Addy allowed him cross into the box where Hill nutmegged the keeper for 4-4.

Asfordby took plenty of positives from the game with new players settling in.
