Asfordby FC Under 10s returned to Hoby Road for a development fixture against their local rivals Melton Foxes.

The home side started the brightest with the wind at their backs, and soon began to mount some serious pressure on the Foxes’ defence.

A through ball by Thomas put Max in, but his shot was well-saved, and Joe then sent Max through to beat two Foxes defenders and the keeper from the edge of the area.

Melton started to mount some attacks of their own, but Archie, Theo and Tobi stood firm in the Asfordby defence.

Thomas, Joe and Conner began to win the midfield battle for Asfordby and numerous chances went begging for the home team.

And when Foxes did breach the Asfordby defence, keeper Rhys was in great form to keep the visitors at bay.

After the interval, with the wind in their favour, it was all-Foxes with Asfordby struggling to get into the game.

A neat one-two between the Melton strikers brought out a great save from Asfordby keeper Rhys.

But Rhys was beaten after another attacking move which culminated in a neat one-two which dissected the Asfordby defence and allowed the Foxes striker to slot home.

The equaliser kick-started Asfordby into action and Thomas’ shot forced a save.

Both teams were going for victory in a fierce local derby with bragging rights at stake.

A great solo run took Max past two defenders to smash home from 18 yards and give Asfordby a hard-earned victory against the industrious Foxes.
