AS the Champions League springs back into life this week, Action Replay recalls European success for a group of Asfordby youngsters.

The main team photo shows the Asfordby Amateurs JYFC side which triumphed in an international junior tournament in Belgium in the 1994/95 season. It was kindly supplied by their manager Eric Warren.

The team were on tour in Holland when they made the two-hour trip across the border for the two-day tournament which also featured teams from France, Germany and Holland as well as the hosts.

The first day was played on a league format with Asfordby going through to the final the following day courtesy of 8-0 and 3-1 wins and a goalless draw.

Up against Belgian side SC Wolvertem, Amateurs took a first half lead in the final, but the hosts hit back after the break to send the match into penalties.

After both sides scored four of their five spot-kicks, the shoot-out went to sudden death where keeper Endall was the hero, saving the Belgians’ second penalty to send the trophy back to England.
