Belvoir’s flashing blade was Greg Oldfield whose first 50 came from 60 balls as wickets fell at the other end and he manfully tried to hold the innings together.

Supported by Ryan Lewis (28 from 25 balls) the score accelerated as they added 57 at nine-per-over.

Oldfield then thrashed 14 of the 15 runs in the next seven-ball partnership, and on 79 faced the last over which went for 6-4-4-4-2-4, completing his century from the last ball.

Oldfield’s second 50 had come from 24 balls as Belvoir finished on 199-6 off 32 overs.

Needing 6.25 per over, Gedling started slowly against some very accurate bowling from Danny Gibson.

With 12 overs left they still needed 127 to win this rain-affected match, but Rhys Hayes had been accumulating and accelerating with cheek and power, reaching his 50 from 55 balls with an imperious six into the golf course.

With wickets falling regularly at the other end, Hayes went berserk, powering his way to 120 until he was stumped by Ryan Lewis off the bowling of Andy Dann (3 for 39) as Gedling finished just 11 runs short on 188-8.
