EGERTON PARK v LANGTONS

Match Drawn

Just minutes before this game, large part of the Egerton Park square was under water after heavy rain on Saturday morning.

But a monumental effort by club members and supporters, using buckets, squeegees and brushes, got the pitch into a playable state, with the help of a strong breeze.

The match started with a delay of just 70 minutes.

Langtons won the toss and batted with the game reduced to 35 overs a side.

They batted postively as they often do and with some powerful striking and swift running between the wickets they posted 255-4.

In reply, needing 7.3 runs per over, Park rejigged the order and replaced both openers with Hussain and big-hitting Dave Burdett.

The visitors unusually opened the bowling with spin. Burdett fell for 18 after a couple of boundaries earlier in the over before Tom Glover (54) joined Zaheer Hussain (74) for a 115-run partnership.

Park were always behind the required rate and as they looked to force the pace they lost a few wickets and the game petered out to a draw, the hosts scoring 176-4.
