Great Dalby take the shield honours

Pupils from Great Dalby Primary School were thrilled to win the annual Kuzmicz Shield with victory over a team from Brownlow Primary School.

Many parents, teachers and villagers turned out to enjoy a hotly-contested game at Dalby, the hosts scoring 314 runs with Browlow replying with 265.

The shield has been contested for eight years in memory of Roger Kuzmicz, who lived in the village.

His widow Sally and son Matt presented the shield and medals to the very proud winning side.

After the exciting match, headteacher Andrew Raistrick, in his final year at the school, gave a rousing speech and thanked Fred Parker for umpiring and Lou Caplin for preparing the wicket

A spokesperson for Great Dalby School said: “The team were very supportive of each other and were absolutely thrilled to win .

“Great Dalby have only won the shield three times in the eight years so it was lovely for us to win again.”
