Hosting Langtons Second XI, the game seemed to be following a familiar pattern as Melton won the toss and bowled out the visitors for 131, made, bizarrely, in just 17 overs.

But as the Division Four East leaders went searching for their 10th win of the season the wheels fell off.

The hosts were eventually bowled out 61 runs short in 39 overs to pick up just five points.

Their second defeat of the season cut their lead at the top to 22 points from Market Overton, while the gap to third-placed Langtons was reduced to 58 points, having stood in three figures just a few weeks ago.

Melton will look to make amends on Saturday when they visit Medbourne (1pm start).
