Egerton Park CC: Firsts' winless run goes on; Second XI prospers

Again it was a lack of runs which cost the hosts as their winless run in Division Two extended to seven matches.

Park lost the toss and were asked to bat first and got off to a great start with 31 runs coming off the first three overs without loss.

But despite an innings of 49 from veteran Greg Tyler, the Melton side collapsed to 141 all out inside 40 overs as a result of some less than average batting and disputed decisions.

The visitors completed the run chase in the 36th over for the loss of six wickets to move off the bottom of the table.

Park picked up just five points and moved down a place to eighth.

They must now work hard to reverse their fortunes and form as they prepare to host ninth-placed Lutterworth on Saturday from 1pm.

* In contrast, Egerton Park’s Second XI are in good form as they made it back-to-back wins on Saturday at Cosby.

Having won the toss and asked the home side to bat, the Park bowlers performed well to restrict Cosby to just 143-9 from their 45 overs.

The reply was built around Dave Burdett’s half-century as the batsman made 56 to help the visitors wrap up a six-wicket victory in only 29 overs.

Park’s fifth win of the summer lifts them up to seventh in Division Seven East with six games of the season left.

On Saturday, the Second XI travel to Leicester to play Electricity Sports Third XI (1pm).
