Brotherhood fires Long Clawson to Belvoir Cup triumph

Mash Tub won the toss and decided to bat first at Wymeswold with Gaz Potter opening with a breezy 16.

Once he fell, Mason (20) and Haylock (20) rebuilt the innings and with three overs left, The Tub were set to post a competitive score.

But Tom Brotherhood spoiled that by taking four wickets in an over, including a hat-trick, to finish with 5 for 19. Mike Roberts (2 and 38) and J Baker (2 for 24) were also among the wickets as the Tub were restricted to 98-9.

Opening the batting for Clawson, Brotherhood repeated his heroics with the ball by hitting a blistering 77 not out.

Supported by Jones (12 not out), Clawson got over the winning line without losing a wicket against a Mash Tub team who did not give up in the field.

League representative Mark Bullimore thanked Wymeswold for the use of their excellent new facilities and for providing umpires and a scorer, groundsman R. Shelton for an excellent wicket, and both teams for the spirit the game was played in.

Mike Roberts was presented with the Belvoir Cup, while the umpires’ choice of man-of-the-match went, unsurprisingly, to Brotherhood.
