Belvoir League: Wymeswold and Old Dalby ease to opening wins

Wymeswold (102-3) beat Hickling (94-6)

Rob Pitman (45 not out) top scored for Wymeswold who made 102-3 thanks to support from Jamie Needham (30) and Dan Lewin’s 17 from five balls. Pete Playle (1 for 12 off four overs) was the pick of the Hickling bowling.

In reply, despite 29 from Ian Fisher, who fell caught at cow corner, and 27 from Spawton, Hickling fell eight runs short thanks to a fine spell from 16-year-old bowler Alfie Dunton.

Old Dalby (84-3) beat Thorpe Arnold (76-8)

Dalby’s innings was built around Carrick Fone (40) and David Greaves (36 not out), and Thorpe struggled in reply as Alfie Greaves (2), Joe Gant (2) and Tony Woodcock (3) chipped away with wickets.

Tonight sees the first round of The Frank Woodhead Cup – Mash Tub v Wymeswold; Mars Petcare v Old Dalby; Thorpe Arnold v Upper Broughton; Hickling v Long Clawson (6.30pm).
