Belvoir League: Upper Broughton and Wymeswold chase down targets

But Paul Stevenson (4 for 26) slowed things down and despite a superb six from Strachly, Broughton bowlers Shelton and Mooney kept things tight and restricted the Tub to 89-9.

In reply, a fine 36 not out from Richard Randall and unbeaten knock of 14 from James Dickens saw Broughton home by five wickets despite the best efforts of Madden (3 for 14) for the Tub.

* Long Clawson batted first against Wymeswold and were restricted by tight bowling by Will Marsh and Alfie Dutton.

Mike Roberts (28) top scored for Clawson who posted a decent total of 107-5.

The prolific Rob Pitman carried his bat for 43 in the chase, despite good bowling from young James Gilbertson and Mike Roberts.

Pitman received good support from Dan Barry (18) and Sam Allen (31) as Wymeswold won by seven wickets.

Result: Sproxton (87 all out) lost to Thorpe Arnold (90-1) by 9 wkts.

* This week sees the league make way for the semi-finals of the Frank Woodhead Cup and Belvoir Cup.

Both ties have been brought forward 24 hours to Wednesday night to avoid a clash with England’s European Championship tie.
