A downpour just before the match was due to start reduced the game to 34 overs a side.

Earl Shilton won the toss and put Barkby United into bat. Opener Steve Flowers made 18 from 15 balls, but was brilliantly caught by Butt in the slips with the score on 20.

Phillips followed 17 runs later for seven before Townsend and Drake led a recovery. But with the score on 80, Drake was bowled for 26.

Barkby lost wickets at regular intervals, and only Rob Townsend who batted steadily to make an unbeaten 49, and Troop (17) reached double figures of the remaining batsmen.

Barkby’s innings finishing on 146-7.

The home batsmen played positively from the start of their reply, and with Barkby’s bowlers sending down to many loose deliveries, Earl Shilton were able to reach their target in the 20th over.

Barkby took only three points from the match and dropped down to sixth place in Division One.
