Barkby United CC reflect on top season at awards night

Barkby United Cricket Club held their annual dinner and presentation night on Friday at the village hall where presentations were made by the various team captains.

Club chairman Marcus Birr presented the Clubman of the Year trophy to Scott Moore for his and his family’s work for Barkby throughout the season.

First XI captain Steve Flowers presented the batting award to his brother Tom, who was also named first team player of the season, while the bowling award went to Rob Townsend who finished the 2016 season as the leading wicket taker in the Leicestershire County League Premier Division.

Conor Percy was the Second XI best batsman, and skipper Dave Botting picked up the double of best bowler and second team player of the season.

Third XI captain Michael Lilley won his team’s bowling prize and presented batting and player of the season awards to Nitesh Vadgama and Jack Fox respectively.

Sunday XI captain Ken Eales presented Jack Wood with the award for best batsman and Jack Johnson was best bowler.

The Burrough League players of the season were Steve Flowers (First XI) and Jack Fox (Second XI)

The De Lorian Award, a cricket bat with a hole in it, is presented for the funniest moment of the season and went to Rob Townsend who spent an hour trying to find Tilton and Lowesby’s ground for a Burrough League game before deciding to drive home.

Marcus thanked everyone who had supported the club throughout a very successful season in which the First XI finished an excellent fifth in the County League Premier, and the County League Second and Third XIs both won promotion.

The Burrough League first team were also crowned Division One champions.
