MONDAY, 4.30pm: Thorpe returned to winning ways in a rain-reduced game with a good batting performance on an excellent wicket.
Everards County League Division Two
LOUGHBOROUGH TOWN SECOND XI v THORPE ARNOLD
Thorpe won by 4 wkts

Bowling first, James Pepperdine and Brian Makwana bowled well with little luck before Pepperdine claimed the first wicket when skipper Matthews pounced in the slips.

Edwards and Lowe added 124 for the second wicket with Thorpe putting down numerous chances as Edwards went on to score 72 and Lowe 84. Tim Webster again starred with ball for the second week running, claiming 3-26 as Loughborough raced to 231-4 from 39 overs.

Chasing a good total on the board Thorpe needed to apply themselves better than in recent weeks and Pete Humphreys and Carel Fourie did so, putting on 76 for the first wicket before Humphreys holed out at square wicket.

Juan Drotskie and Fourie guided Thorpe towards their target with the run rate rising to eight per over. Once Drotskie was out Makwana and Sam Woods to get ahead of the run rate.

Woods was caught on the boundary, but skipper Mark Matthews and Makwana took Thorpe to within two of victory. Makwana was caught at mid-wicket, leaving Richard Randall to hit the winning runs from the second ball of the final over.

Loughborough Town: 231-4.

Bowling: J. Pepperdine 1-2-75-1; B. Makwana 9-0-50-0; C. Fourie 8-0-32-0; C. Waldron 4-0-38-0; T. Webster 4-0-26-3.

Thorpe: C. Fourie 72, P. Humphreys 32, J. Drotskie 20, B. Makawana 45, S. Woods 24, C. Waldron 0, M. Matthews 23*, R. Randall 4*, Extras 13. Total: 233-6.

Everards County League Division Four
THORPE ARNOLD SECOND XI v STOUGHTON AND THURNBY
Thorpe won by 66 runs

THORPE Seconds raced to the top of the table after beating pre-match leaders Stoughton.

Tim Hirst lost the toss and was asked to bat on another track with variable bounce. Runs were hard to come by against excellent bowling from Norwell who dismissed Thorpe's top three of Renwick (10), Hirst (23) and Gant (24).

Keightley and Freer dug in, making 32 and 31, and with lower order runs from Sibun (13) and Hickman (14), Thorpe reached 179 all out.

Many thought this would not be enough, but Dave Frost had different ideas, bowling Stoughton's captain with the first ball.

Frost took regular wickets before running out of steam and finishing with 4-40 from 13 overs.

Charles Baker again bowled with accuracy and pace, taking 1-9 from his five overs. Mark Starkey recovered to finish with 2-29 from six overs, while Keightley and Hirst mopped up the tail with three wickets between them to give Thorpe all 24 points.
