SUNDAY, noon: Market Overton Bowls Club held their first Gala Day of the season on Sunday.
It attracted 80 bowlers from as far afield as Syston, Corby, Stamford, Bourne and Asfordby who competed under sunny skies.

The gala was well organised by David Duquemin and was sponsored by Mr and Mrs Abbott of Castle Bytham, parents of club captain Jon Abbott.

A Melton Town Bowls Club team of skip Lenny Keightley, Jenny McConnell, also a Marko member, Madge Baker and Mary Keightley won the day.

The standard of bowling was high on the very fast green with the rink of Molly Taylor, Keith Shephard, Syd Forbes and Frank Haynes just pipped for second place by Pat Banks, Gerry Barker, John Burch and skip Bruce Roberts, a Marko member from Langham, by one point.

Club president Terry Smith presented consolation prizes of bottles of wine to a rink from Greetham BC, while Mr Duquemin thanked the greenkeepers, Barbara Smith's tea ladies and the many other volunteers.
