FRIDAY, 11am: Thorpe claimed an unlikely victory in an exciting finish with the penultimate ball of the match to remain undefeated in Division Four.
Division Four
BARROW TOWN SECOND XI v THORPE ARNOLD SECOND XI
Thorpe won by 5 wkts

Winning the toss, skipper Ian Hickman elected to bowl with opening pair Chris Waldron and Matt Lane restricting Barrow to 56-1 from their first 20 overs.

Ever
y Barrow batsman got a start with opener Smith playing some fine shots, but even with wickets in hand they left their acceleration until the 37th over and their total of 208 from 45 overs looked 30 to 40 runs short of a commanding position. Pick of the bowlers again was Lane (4-74), bowling from one end throughout.

Openers Richard Garner and Ali McQuillan found things much tougher as Khan and Wilcox bowled superbly to reduce Thorpe to 15-2 after 16 overs.

Tim Hirst was picked up in the slips off Khan, whose opening eight overs were all maidens. Survival for 45 overs in occupying the crease seemed the only option to get something from the game.

But Chris Waldron had other ideas, joining Alex Renwick and hitting Barrow's attack to all parts of the ground. Renwick was full of confidence, with Waldron also accelerating his stroke play to frustrate the fielding side.

The pair put on a huge 163 for the fourth wicket before Waldron was finally out for 77 with victory in sight. It was left to Renwick and Sibun to see Thorpe home, Renwick unbeaten on 86.

Barrow Town: 208-6.
Bowling: C. Waldron 11-1-61-1, M. Lane 22-5-74-4, T. Hirst 9-1-47-0, I. Hickman 3-0-22-1.
Thorpe: R. Garner 0, A. McQuillan 3, A. Renwick 86*, T. Hirst 4, C. Waldron 77, I. Hickman 14, A. Sibun 3*, Extras 22. Total: 209-5.

Division Seven
MELTON MOWBRAY SECONDS v BARDON HILL SECONDS
Bardon Hill won by 108 runs
Sponsors: Aston Vauxhall (Melton)

MELTON won the toss and decided to field, Lee Jones opening the bowling and keeping things tight and finishing with 11-4-26-0.

Bardon Hill put on a controlled batting display with D. Ansell (64) and D. Stevenson (41) helping them to 179 for 8. Pravin Mistry was Melton's most successful bowler with 4 for 52 from 12 overs.

Melton made a very slow start and by the 17th over only had 25 runs on the board, mainly down to tight bowling from Lawrence (16-9-14-5).

Melton settled a little and by the 22nd over had reached 44 for 2, but when Mike Pratt and Mark Wells left the crease, the wickets tumbled as they were all out for 71 in the 33rd over.

Bardon Hill: 179-8.
