THURSDAY, 2pm: Thorpe Arnold Seconds continued their promotion push with 18 points after an excellent all-round team performance.
Division Four
THORPE ARNOLD SECOND XI v LEICESTER BANKS
Thorpe winning draw

Losing the toss Thorpe were asked to bat and lost Pete Humphreys to the fourth ball and Tim Hirst's dismissal left them on 15-2 after five overs.

Dylan Ross and Mark Carnell set about rebuilding the innings on a tricky wicket.

They kept the scoreboard ticking over at just above four an over and added 113 in 24 overs before Carnell was caught on the boundary.
Ross and Chris Waldron upped the tempo before Ian Hickman hit a quickfire 19. With contributions from all the batsmen, Thorpe reached 240 for 8.

The visitors lost their opener in the first over to Chris Waldron, while Anthony Lynch kept things tight at the other end.

Leicester maintained the required run rate but lost wickets to excellent fielding with Hickman taking another catch.

Patel came in at number eight and smashed the ball to all parts of the ground, but the fine fielding continued with a certain six denied by Andrew Keightley's athletic stop and Hirst making a stunning catch on the boundary.

Leicester decided to hang on for a draw with Anthony Lynch taking two wickets and Hirst and Waldron three apiece.

Division Five
ILSTON ABBEY v MELTON MOWBRAY
Ilston won by 6 wkts
Sponsors: Hunt and Swain/The Family Butchers

MELTON took a weakened side to table-topping Ilston and their troubles increased as they lost the toss and were asked to bat.

On a damp, sticky wicket batting was difficult against extensive swing and seam movement.

Mike Pratt was bowled, followed by skipper Brown. Hendy (36) and Smith (26) added 53 runs for the third wicket although scoring was slow on the long outfield.

Mabbott and Moncrieff's dismissal exposed the long tail as Melton subsided from 92 for 4 to a very poor 105 all out in 42 overs.

Ilston's openers looked to attack and win the game in quick time, but skipper Brown saw his bowlers show more fight than the batsmen.

Matt Clayton claimed three wickets and constantly troubled the top order, but despite Sultan claiming his first wicket for Melton, Abbas' unbeaten 50 guided Ilston to victory.

Melton: Pratt 0, Brown 5, Hendy 36, Smith 26, Mabbott 0, Moncrieff 6, Clayton 4, Sultan 0, Wells 2, Clator 4, Dawson 1*, Extras 17. Total: 105.

Ilston Abbey: 109-4.
Bowling: Clayton 12-1-40-3, Smith 6-0-30-0, Sultan 5-0-28-1, Moncrieff 1-0-10-0.

Division Six
ELECTRICITY SPORTS SECOND XI v EGERTON PARK SECOND XI
Park won by 156 runs

ANOTHER great display from Park's second string saw them cruise to an easy victory on Saturday.

Asked to bat first they amassed a massive 258 for 2, Greg Tyler's third century of the season the highlight.

Youngster Johnny Murdoch again batted well at the top of the innings and Mark Hoggan made a pleasing return to form with an undefeated 70.

Ben Hunt and Tom Glover took early wickets as Sports slumped to 19 for 4, but Barney Simons was the pick of the attack with a venomous spell which saw him pick up five wickets.

The only negative was more sloppy catching and fielding which resulted in the home side passing 100 runs to pick up a point.

Egerton Park: G. Tyler 113, J. Murdoch 26, M. Hoggan 70*, J. Harris 13*, Extras 36. Total: 258-2.
