THURSDAY, 1.30pm: Thorpe Arnold's young guns claimed the prize scalp of leaders Harlaxton in a finely-balanced match.
Grantham and Melton League Division Three
THORPE ARNOLD THIRD XI v HARLAXTON
Thorpe won by 39 runs

Skipper Chris Waldron lost the toss and were put into bat having lost a high-scoring reverse match batting first early in the season.

Ian Hickman and Richard Randall started brightly with 60 for the first wicket in 12 overs before Hickman holed out and Randall quickly followed.

Andrew Keightley and Chris Waldron re-built the innings, Keightley playing the anchor role and Waldron displaying his array of big shots as they added a pivotal 149-run stand.

Waldron was out for 79 aiming for another boundary, but Keightley finished unbeaten as Thorpe set a good target.

Thorpe's tormentor from the previous game, Matt Gormley, began with a couple of big shots before Jenny Waldron took a fine catch off the bowling of her brother Chris.

She then had Harlaxton skipper Davidson caught by Joe Gant as Thorpe sensed an upset.

Sharp and Averill put on 73 as Harlaxton took control again. Spin kings Hickman and Keightley wrapped up the game, Hickman taking five wickets.

Thorpe: I. Hickman 33, R. Randall 20, J. Gant 5, A. Keightley 57*, C. Waldron 79, R. Garner 3*, Extras 32. Total: 229-4.

Harlaxton: 191.
Bowling: C. Waldron 5-1-30-2, M. Lane 5-0-36-0, J. Waldron 5-0-28-1, B. Freer 6-0-41-0, I. Hickman 7.2-0-26-5, A. Keightley 6-0-18-2.

Division Five
KINOULTON v WELBY
Kinoulton won by 48 runs

WELBY asked the hosts to bat and soon had them on the rack with Underwood caught off the first ball of the match.

Wiles and Campbell soon followed and it was left to Steve Fox and Tom Richards to rebuild the innings before Fox was stumped for a good 25. Sam Jennings and Richards figured in a match-winning stand of 80 before the latter was out for 56.

Jennings was supported by the team's youngsters before finally falling 12 short of his hundred as the hosts were all out for 201.

Tight bowling and good fielding never allowed Welby to get on top, with only the innings of Whatton (27) and Hodkin (29) giving them hope.

Jennings finished a fine all-round display with four wickets, while Lyndon Cowlard took three, but it was Sam Underwood (2 for 26) and Shaun Campbell (1 for 26) who set the bowling standards and left Welby with too much to do.

Kinoulton: S. Underwood 0, S. Fox 25, A. Wiles 4, S. Campbell 0, T. Richards 56, S. Jennings 88, M. Towle 9, T. Linley 1, L. Cowlard 2, D. Richards 6*, A. France 1, Extras 9. Total: 201.

Welby: 153.
Bowling: S. Campbell 10-3-26-1, S. Underwood 10-2-32-2, S. Jennings 10-0-46-4, L. Cowlard 9.1-0-37-3.
