Stoke Rochford boost South Lincs League hopes

SUNDAY, 11am: Stoke Rochford Golf Club hosted the Pearce Pot, an individual stableford competition which attracted 105 entrants.
Brian Ayto won with 44 points, a one under par round which included five birdies and earned him a two-shot handicap reduction to five.

Ken Bean (handicap 14) was second with 41 points with Andrew Tildesley (handicap 17) third with 40. Gross winner was Andrew Watson (34pts).

*In the South Lincolnshire League Division One, Stoke Rochford halved their match at Spalding to maintain their unbeaten run having won six and halved two of their eight matches.

Stoke Rochford lead by four points with a possible four points to play for in the last two games against Belton Park at home and Sleaford away.

*Stoke Rochford will play in the prestigious Elsham Foursomes Final on Sunday, August 16 at Elsham GC. All spectators are welcome.

*In the Ladies' league, Stoke won at Carholme 2½ to 1½ and gained promotion back to Division One South with a game to spare.

Scores: Pam Watson/June Miller lost 3 and 2, Chris Rowley/Avis Griffin won 2 and 1, Sue Booth/Dorne Werner halved, Phillippa Smith/Joan Lennard won 2 and 1.

*Stoke C team had lost only three of their previous 15 matches this season, but were brought were bought down to earth 6-0 by opponents eager to avenge last month's 5–1 defeat.

Scores: Roger Smith/Tony Bostock lost 4 and 3, John Lemmon/Andy Edwards lost 2 and 1, Tony Andrews/Lee McDonald lost 3 and 2, Colin Joyner/Steve Forbes lost 6 and 5, Graham Miller/Bob Bennett lost 3 and 2, Steve Davies/Andy Tildesley lost 1-down.

*Club captain Steve Cullington joined the seniors and teamed up with the seniors' captain to play their equivalent office holders from Radcliffe. They won their match, but the rest of the team could not avoid a 5-3 defeat for their first losing double of the season.

*Stoke Seniors achieved their first whitewash win since April 2008 in torrential rain.
