TUESDAY, 1pm: Temperatures dipping below freezing didn't deter a superb field of 27 Stilton Striders from turning out for the first league race of the winter season.
The men's team put in a fine performance at the Barrow 6 with Chris Southam leading them home in sixth place overall with a personal best of 31min 50secs.

He was followed by Darren Glover in 35.55, Tim Hicks (37.27), John Cresswell (37.42) and Christian Davidson (38.43).

Next home was the seemingly unstoppable Neil Jaggard who clocked another personal best of 39.02 and spent the rest of the day basking in the glory of beating captain and team-mate Phil Douglas for the first time.

Next home was Patrick McNeight in a time of 39.30 followed by Phil Douglas (40.22), Richard Gray (41.30), Steve Dewick (40.34) and Andy Robinson (42.10).

Billy Hicks clocked 42.58, while there were more personal best times for Darryl Woolward (43.02) and Wayne Hackett (43.17). Clive Wright crossed the finish line in 43.34 from tem-mates Gary Christmas (45.46), Ian Mason (45.48 PB) and Sam Ellis (46.18).

John Stares (48.45) ran well and was pleased to beat training partner Harvey Hopwood (49.58).

*The ladies' team of four were back in business with Nicola Clay finishing fifth lady overall in 36.56.

Vicky Lowe clocked an improved best of 44.08 just ahead of the ever-improving and strong-running Helen Widdowson who also claimed a personal best of 44.48.

They were followed by an unwell, but determined Kirsty Ainscough (47.32), and supporting them, with great runs and a personal best each, were Abbi Arnott (50.06), Julie Jaggard (50.21) and Michelle McNeight (55.30).
