WEDNESDAY 5pm: Top martial artist Iman Barlow has picked up her second world title after a rollercoaster two-month family trip to Thailand.
The 15-year-old Melton schoolgirl claimed the 54kg World Professional Muay Thai Federation world title with a second round stoppage against undefeated Thai woman Phetnamia in Thai resort Phuket.
The match was part of the biggest Thai boxing event of the year, the Queen of Thailand's Birthday Show, and was made at 53.5kg and under, a weight category above Iman's last world title fight in Bangkok last summer.
After a slow first round, Iman threw a left shin kick to the girl's head and as the Thai fell to the canvas, she followed it with a front kick to the face which finished her opponent off.
Iman spent two months of training and fighting in the country with dad Mark, chief instructor of the Assassins Muay Thai Boxing Club, mum Maxine and 10-year-old brother Thai.
Their first fight was at the seaside town of Hui Huin where Thai forced a superb draw against his experienced opponent of 50 fights. Iman was next on at her heaviest weight of 53kg, and didn't get out of first gear as she stopped her opponent in round two.
After three weeks of hard training they both travelled to Phuket for the Queen Of Thailand's Birthday Show which featured four world title fights and a demonstration from 2x K1 World champion Baukaw Por Paramuk.
Before Iman's heroics, Thai fought on his 11th birthday and destroyed his opponent with big kicks and punches within a round.
Iman and Thai's final fights were screened live on Thai television. Thai fought another tough opponent and lost the bout on points but impressed the TV station enough to invite him to fight on t.v next year.
Maxine then faced her first professional boxing bout against a Thai national team opponent and was the aggressor throughout the four rounds, earning a draw.
More than one million baht were bet on Iman's bout which was supposed to be at 51kg, but against an opponent who would later be found to have been 60kg at the time of the fight.
Iman took the fight to the girl and pressed forward in all four rounds, but the weight difference was just too much and the bout was awarded to the Thai girl. But the Bangkok press heralded Iman the next day as a superstar of the sport.
