THURSDAY, 3pm: Rising motor-racing star Craig Dolby should find out within days whether he will be allowed to continue his stunning form in the Superleague Formula series.
The 20-year-old from Melton was initially signed on a three-race deal to drive for Belgian motorsport team Astromega and football giants Anderlecht in the fledgling championship where major football teams from across the globe compete on the racetrack.

Spurred on by facing top drivers from Formula 1 and World Series, Dolby currently lies handily-placed in third after three rounds. He became the only driver in the competition to boast three podiums from the six races when he finished second, for the third race running, at Zolder on Sunday.

But mechanical problems cost him a finish in race two when another podium and the championship lead looked likely. He is desperate to complete the job in the final three races starting with the next round at Estoril in Portugal.

He said: "Some people are saying yes, and some people are saying we need more money. The chairman of Anderlecht was there on Sunday and said he was proud of what I had done for the club so hopefully Anderlecht will help me out now.

"I can't see them dropping me now. We are quicker than all of the field in dry conditions at the moment. The only times I have missed out on the podium is when the car has broken and I haven't finished."

A stunning qualifying performance, belying the gremlins which plagued the car all weekend, put him second on the grid for the first race. Roared on by thousands of fans and the Anderlecht squad, he soon grabbed the lead, but was outdone by tyre changes which helped Liverpool to the eventual win.

With a reverse grid for the following race, Dolby started second from the back, but had soon roared his way up to seventh when a mechanical problem halted his race with nine minutes left. Beijing took the chequered flag to pull away in the overall standings.

Dolby added: "I was taking it quite steady to be honest, but the car's differentials went and that was that. I had a few problems with the car from the word go over the weekend, but I had driven around them.

"The car broke before qualifying and with 10 minutes to go the rear of the car was still in bits. I got out in time for one quick lap and managed to sneak through the first round.

"It was the first lap I had done at Zolder in a Superleague car and I was going into corners at 180mph having to guess where I had to brake."
