THURSDAY, 2pm: A fine innings from Egerton Park's Stuart Rose helped the hosts maintain their promotion charge.
Grantham and Melton Cricket Association
EGERTON PARK v QUENIBOROUGH
Park won by two runs

In a thrilling match, the home side batted first, but were put under some severe pressure by Queniborough.

Rose's contribution proved vital as he compiled 71, almost half of his team's total of 152 for 8 from their 40-over allocation.

But it was a good all-round team performance which helped them restrict Queniborough's efforts to reach the modest target.

Great bowling, led by skipper Matt Parnham's best figures of 3 for 37 from 10 overs, and a good effort in the field kept the visitors under pressure.

With wickets tumbling steadily throughout their innings, Queniborough fell just three runs short of victory with one wicket intact in a thrilling finish.

Division One
ASHBY CARINGTON v PICKWELL
Pickwell won by 8 runs

THESE two sides produced another nailbiting finish on Sunday as the visitors edged home.

Pickwell won the toss and batted, and after losing an early wicket, Westerman and Driver made a cautious start, taking the score to 70 by the 20th over.

Four quick wickets gave Ashby the upper hand before late runs by Fetzko and Woods helped Pickwell close on 173 for 9.

In reply, Ashby also made a steady start against good bowling by Clayton and Baker, reaching 64 at the halfway point.

But regular wickets fell to leave Ashby in trouble at 140 for 8.

Number 10 Martin Troop put Ashby back in contention with 14 from one over before he was bizarrely run out when his straight drive struck the umpire and deflected to a fielder.

Vital wickets at the death gave Pickwell the victory.

Youngster Charles Baker (14) starred for Pickwell taking 2 for 21 from nine overs, with Chris Fetzko (3 for 40) and Bridge (2 for 40) clinching the result.

Pickwell: C. Westerman 36, T. Smith 1, T. Driver 40, D. Snaith 9, M. Clayton 0, C. Fetzko 27, S. Woods 38, M. Woods 10, R. Bridge 7, C. Baker 0*, Extras 5. Total: 173-9.

Division Three
BARKSTON AND SYSTON v THORPE ARNOLD THIRD XI
Thorpe won by 35 runs

THORPE'S young third team batted first and scored more than 200 for the fifth straight game.

After a delay caused by Barkston, the hosts forfeited the toss and Thorpe batted.

They lost opener Jake Collington on 19, but skipper Chris Waldron and Ian Hickman added 80 for the second wicket before Waldron holed out to long mid-on with a lofted drive.

Richard Garner and Hickman put on 56 for the third wicket before Hickman was bowled for a brutal 91. Matt Lane and Garner took the score past 200 before Lane was out.

In reply, tight bowling by Jenny Waldron and Matt Lane ensured Barkston would struggle to reach Thorpe's total, limiting Barkston to 42 from their first 15 overs.

Glover and Kelly added quick middle order runs, but it was too late as Chris Waldron dismissed Glover with his first ball and Ian Hickman the wicket of Kelly.

Waldron gave all the team a bowl with Richard Randall, Garner and Glenn Hoyles picking up wickets. But Thorpe's most successful bowler was Ben Freer (3-33) as Barkston fell 35 runs shy from their 40 overs.

Thorpe: I. Hickman 91, J. Collington 2, C. Waldron 34, R. Garner 33, R. Randall 3, M. Lane 20, G. Hoyles 1, J. Waldron 3, M. Hickman 2*, J. Kendall 3, B. Freer 0*, Extras 22. Total: 214-9.
