FRIDAY, 9am: Thorpe Arnold CC Second XI's good form continued with an accomplished team display to stay unbeaten against opponents who were missing a few of their stronger players.
Division Four
THORPE ARNOLD SECOND XI v SILEBY SECOND XI
Thorpe won by 4 wkts

Opening bowlers Chris Waldron and Matt Lane were put to the sword by Tomkins as the openers scored freely, aided by mediocre fielding.

Tompkins was dropped twice as Sileby reached 100-1 at the halfway point with wickets in hand.

When Ruddle was out the game became more even as Thorpe began to take heart.

Tim Webster, Tim Hirst and Ian Hickman took out the middle and late order aided by better fielding with great catches and smart run-outs as Sileby fell three runs short of maximum batting points.

Thorpe made a great start with Richard Randall and Dylan Ross compiling 85 for the first wicket before Randall was bowled by Ruddle for 27 and Ross for 51 as the pair put Thorpe in a great position.

All of the batsmen chipped in as the home side eased to victory with six overs to spare, Jake Collington undefeated on 42.

Sileby: 197.
Bowling: C. Waldron 6-0-31-1, M. Lane 13-0-61-0, T. Webster 12.1-2-43-4, T. Hirst 7-0-30-2, I. Hickman 6-1-29-2.
Thorpe: R. Randall 27, D. Ross. 51, T. Hirst, C. Waldron 16, J. Collington 42*, A. Sibun 14, I. Hickman 0, A. Renwick 0*. Total: 198-6.

Division Two
SHEPSHED v THORPE ARNOLD FIRST XI
Shepshed winning draw

THORPE ended with a losing draw on Saturday in a game that was theirs for the taking.

Winning the toss again, Shepshed were put in, but after losing an early wicket their South African import scored freely and at 75-1 after 14 overs a big score looked on the cards.

But Barry Lecoyte came on and bowled brilliantly, taking 7 for 60 from 17 overs as Shepshed were dismissed for 190, 40 more runs more than they should.

Robert Lecoyte's wicket keeping was excellent, taking two catches and a stumping by standing up to the bowling on a wicket with variable bounce.
Thorpe made a terrible start losing Dil in the first over and sank to 25-2 after nine overs.

Robert Lecoyte and Brian Makwana rebuilt the innings and were in full control at 90-2 when Lecoyte (34) holed out at cover and Makwana (26) was run out.

A middle order collapse left it to Nobby Keightley (27), Richard Garner (5) and the lower order to save the game. After a long stay at the wicket Keightley was bowled leaving Lee Freer and Dave Frost to survive the remaining five balls.

Discipline and concentration will be needed throughout if Thorpe are to succeed in this league.

Shepshed: 190.
Bowling: D. Frost 6-0-25-0, L. Freer 5-0-31-1, D. Yahathugoda 6-1-35-0, B. Lecoyte 17-1-60-7, B. Makwana 11-1-31-1.
Thorpe: D. Yahathugoda 0, L. Humphreys 1, R. Lecoyte 34, B. Makwana 26, O. Freckingham 5, M. Carnell 0, B. Lecoyte 6, A. Keightley 27, R. Garner 5, D. Frost 0*, L. Freer 1*. Total: 160-9.

Melton won by 4 wkts
Sponsors: Hunt and Swain/Family Butchers

MELTON continued their excellent start to the season with another convincing victory over Langtons at Saxby Road.

Skipper Kev Thorpe asked the visitors to bat and Redwood and Stevenson soon had the batsmen in trouble. Wickets fell at various intervals as Stevenson (3-73 from 17 overs) and Redwood (6-29) who bowled unchanged to dismiss Langtons for 126 in 44 overs.

Experienced skipper Thorpe marshalled his troops superbly and collected the final wicket and maximum bowling points.

After tea, batting appeared easier with Malc Brown (21), Steve Taylor (24) and Ben Redwood (34) scoring the bulk of the runs.

Melton reached their victory total in 37 overs to keep them top.

Division Six
EGERTON PARK SECOND XI v BARKBY UNITED SECOND XI
Barkby won by 46 runs

A POOR Park performance saw them crash to a 46-run defeat against local rivals Barkby.

The visitors elected to bat first, and made a steady start adding 75 for the first wicket in 25 overs.

Skipper David Glover was the pick of the attack with four wickets and while Park's ground fielding was superb, their catching was poor, spilling numerous chances as Barkby closed on 195-6. Park lost Cham early on, but a stand of 54 between Richard Bailey and Greg Tyler got them back on track before Tyler was caught behind for 36.

Rose made only nine before he was out LBW, and Simons a brisk 16 before he was bowled with the score at 121-4.

Matt Parnham was sent in to blast Park to victory, but after a spell out injured it was a tough task and he made only eight.

Bailey was run out for 55 after a dreadful misunderstanding with Haffenden and two more wickets fell cheaply until the last over arrived at 149-8.

Jack Harris was caught behind off the first ball and Glover was LBW off the last ball.
