SUNDAY, 4pm: The Melton GC men joined in The Open at Royal Birkdale on Sunday by playing a shotgun start individual stableford to play for the Goodacre Rose Bowl.
A total of 57 competitors took part with each one drawn with a final round competitor at the Open.

Each member's points score was deducted from the medal score of his professional playing partner and the member with the lowest score won.

oster won after scoring 39 points and drawing partner Ian Poulter who shot a 69 to leave Kieran with a score of 30.

In second place on countback was Jim Dobbin with 42 points, while partner Scott Verplank shot 76 to give him a 34 overall.

Tim Pearson and Adam Scott also got 34, Tim scoring 38 points deducted from Adam's 72.

*The singles stableford competition on Sunday was won by Jim Dobbin with a tremendous six under handicap score of 42 points in blustery conditions.

Kieran Foster was second with 39 points and Dave Moss third with 38 points on countback. The twos sweep was shared by Alex Cooper, Peter Keast and Richard Haines.

*On Saturday, the men played off the Ludlow Bowl as a par/bogey competition. The winner was David Stroud, beating the course by +5, followed by Sam Tait with a +3 who took second place on countback from Marcus Twidale.

Tom Rayson and Martin Wheeler battled it out for fourth and fifth places also on countback, both with a +2 Tom taking fourth. The twos sweep was shared between 15 members and Alan Newton scored a brace of twos.

*The fourth round of the rabbits' order of merit saw Roy Tomley win with a +3 score from Russell Freeman (+1) and Gavin Shilham (-3 ocb).

*The men's second team had an excellent win at Western Park on Wednesday by 4½ to 1½.

Winning pairs: Brian Cole and Ian Solloway (5 and 4), Richard Grieve and Neil Eaves (4 and 3), Johan Rawlins and Peter Keast (1-up), Tony South and Alan Terzza (2-up), team captain Richard Hutton (without a partner) halved.

*The ladies hosted Beedles Lake and enjoyed a superb 4-0 win.
Winners: Lady captain Drina Terzza and Denise Waldron (6 and 5), Gay Cham and Jean Moulds (1-up), Jenny Platts and Janet Bentley (5 and 4), Glynis Breward and Maureen Stapleford (6 and 4).

*The seniors made the trip to Ruddington Grange and secured an excellent win 4½ to 3½.

Senior captain Ron Middleton and Owen Cook won a fine tussle, 1-up, while county president Tom Finn and John Squires won 2-up.
John Parker and Tom Hall won 4 and 3, as did Frank Williams and Mike Huggins. Vic Newham and Denis Dayman halved.

*The ladies played their Ludlow Bowl competition as a stableford format.

The competition was close with excellent scores returned. Junior Leah Radford won with 39 points, two clear of lady president Gwen Doyle who was second on countback from Yvette Joyce, after a better back nine.

*Norma Varley lifted the Keymin Trophy at Stoke Rochford GC after a round of 86-20=66.

Penny Hallam was second with 88-16=72 from Stoke's lady captain Linda Tytherley (100-27=73). The lowest gross prize went to Pam Watson for her round of gross 76.

*Stoke ladies' July medal was won by June Miller (76-9=67), from runner-up Phillippa Smith (89-19=70) and third-placed Dolores Woof (93-22=71). The gross prize went to Dorne Werner (gross 87).

July Monthly Medal: 1 Glyn Staines (80-14=66) ocb; 2 Paul Dexter (75-9=66); 3 Philip White (74-7=67) ocb. Gross winner: Jeffrey Purdy (71).
Midweek Stableford: 1 Michael Bridges (handicap 16) 43pts; 2 Brian Hales (handicap 12) 42; 3 Ray Campbell (handicap 23) 40. Gross winner: Paul Lewis (34).

Captain's Weekend Saturday Four-ball Stableford: 1 Michael Bailey/Robin Wright (44); 2 Jamie Collinson/Glen Barlow (43); 3 Roger Eveleigh/Steve Lemmon (41).

Captain's Medal – Nett: 1 Jamie Collinson (69-2=67 one under par); 2 Roger Rawson (72-4=68) ocb; 3 Lee McDonald (82-14=68) ocb. Gross: 1 Craig Hallam (72ocb); 2 Andrew Frisby (72ocb); 3 Steve Cullington (72ocb). Guest winner: David Manderfield 93-19=74.
