WEDNESDAY, 12.30pm: A celebration of sport took place last week as Melton School Sports' Forum marked a decade of achievement.
Their 10th annual sports awards evening was open to all secondary and primary schools in the Melton borough.

Primary schools were asked to nominate stars from Year 6, while secondary schools chose their top sports students from Year 9.

The awards are designed to cover the whole breadth of achievement from sports personality awards to young participant awards and most improved boys and girls.

Mars UK once again helped to sponsor the evening, held at Melton's Market Tavern, while founder of Melton-based fitness training company SAQ International, Alan Pearson, presented the awards and talked to the 150 nominees who attended the evening about the far-reaching importance of sport.

Awardwinners:- Secondary Schools – Most Improved (girl): Holly Farmer (John Ferneley); (boy): Christopher Hall (Long Field). Masterfoods Young Participant (girl): Lily Feasby (Belvoir High); (boy): Ryan Hutchinson (Belvoir High). Best Sports Team: John Ferneley Under 14s Girls Football. Best Individual Sports (girl): Abigail Lester (Long Field); (boy): Matthew Harby (Long Field). Young Sports Personality: joint winners George Herrick (John Ferneley) and Annabel Blake (Long Field).

Birch Wood Sports Award (junior): Georgie Bennett; (senior): Ryan Smith).

Primary Schools – Play Leader: joint winners Holly Wright and Raevan Withers (Grove). Most Improved (girl): Katherine Lovegrove (Brownlow); (boy): Archie Pearson (Frisby). Masterfoods Masterfoods Young Participant (girl): Ellie Batten (Frisby); (boy): Alex Bown-Bhandal (Scalford)/Sam Savies (Caotain's Close). Best Team: Captain's Close Football. Best Individual (girl): Mari Smith (Frisby); (boy): Luke Harrison (Great Dalby).
