Melton golf pair top large field at Am-Am

SATURDAY, 3pm: Melton GC has had a busy week with competitions, matches and the first open am-am of the season.
On Sunday more than 160 competitors took part in a Mixed Open Am-Am with the rain holding off until the last competitors were on the 18th green.

The prize presentation saw a good mix of visitors and members receiving prizes from club captain Mick
Curtis and competition secretary Doug Woolley.

Results: 1 Owen Cook, Chris Cook (both Melton), Jamie Voss (Western Park), Leavi Voss (Kirby Muxloe) 76pts ocb; 2 Phil Curtis, Denise Waldron, Steve Goddard, Sue Hitchman (all Melton) 76; 3 Mike Barwell, Jo Barwell, Victor Woollaston, Mary Woollaston (all Mickleover) 72; 4 Peter Poolan (Melton), Karen Leach, Mike Sewell, Julie Sewell (all Ullesthorpe) 71. Nearest the pin (14th) ladies: Sue Hitchman, (7th) men: Victor Woollaston.

*On Saturday in fine, but windy conditions, 108 members of the men's section played a medal competition.

Brian Wray won with net 68, while junior Kieran Foster had the best gross score with 75.

Division One was won by Marcus McCallum with net 69, and Chris Ward was two shots behind.

Steven Keast won Division Two on countback from runner-up Chris Shardlow, both with net 70, while Division Three winners score was net 72 from Roy Aldred, closely followed by Russell Freeman (net 73).

The two's sweep was shared between Ben Day, Michael Coady, Tim Hackett, Brian Geeson, Tony South, Gerry Farrow and vice-captain Richard Hutton.

*The third team met Park Hill at Melton with the hosts winning by 3½ to 2½.

Winning pairs: David McKain and Jo Carrington (2 and 1), Brian Wray and Terry Brown (1-up), Bill Hurrell and Neil Eaves (3 and 2), Steven Draisey and Peter Keast halved.

*The juniors played an invitation foursome competition on Bank Holiday Monday, inviting a Melton adult member to play with them in a foursomes stableford.

The winning pair were lady captain Drina Terzza with junior captain Dale Radford with a score of 37 points.

Runners-up were Phil Millward with junior George Boddy (36). Barry Hubbard and Nick Pattison were third (35) and Chris Cook with Kieran Foster came fourth (33).

*The seniors played a friendly against Cotgrave Place and enjoyed a resounding win 6½ to 1½.

Senior captain Ron Middleton and John Parker led the way, winning 2 and 1.

George Hoskins with Tony Houghton won 4 and 3 as did John Squires and Bob Parkinson and Frank Williams and Ken Roberts won 3 and 2. Richard Grieve and Dave Lander, and Peter Branch and Denis Dayman both won 4 and 3 and Neville Palmer and Tom Hall halved.

*The ladies played their Medal Winners Final in conjunction with a monthly medal.

All lady members who won their division in the LGU monthly medals in 2007 competed for the Medal Winners Rose Bowl.

Jeanette Holland won with net 72 from runner-up Kay Knight (net 76 on countback).
