Melton U9s cap season with Plate glory

SUNDAY, noon: In their final fixture of the season Melton RFC Under 9s played in the County Festival at Lutterworth and returned winners of the county plate.
MELTON 25 ASHBY 0
MELTON started brightly and easily disposed of a surprisingly weaker Ashby side.

Melton's excellent organised defence saw Alex Garton play superbly alongside Oscar Bacon and Tom Evans.

Henry Kaczmarczyk ran in four tries and Caine Reader added another to give Melton a great start.

MELTON 5 COALVILLE 5
A FIERCE Coalville challenge saw both sets of forwards battle for possession.

Melton kept Coalville in check with tremendous defence, but they went ahead with an early score.

The whole team dug in as Melton hit back, Connor Boylan denied on the line, but Harry Cank's late try securing a draw.

MELTON 10 VIPERS B 15
A HARD-fought game saw Melton almost met their match in the rucks and mauls against well-organised opponents.

Vipers ran the ball wide from loose play, but were denied by fearless and relentless defence from Reader, Boylan and Kaczmarczyk.

Reader and Cank crossed, but Vipers edged it with the last play.

MELTON 30 SOUTH LEICESTER 0
MELTON dominated their plate semi-final against South Leicester with first half tries from Cank and Richard Ward. After half-time, Melton secured more good ball in ruck and maul, as the outstanding Garton, Alex Riley, Kaczmarczyk and Ward all added tries.

MELTON 5 LEICESTER FOREST 5
THE final was a hard-fought contest with Leicester going ahead.

Melton showed superb team spirit and just after half-time Kaczmarczyk crossed to level the scores. The play was all Melton, but Leicester held Melton off superbly for an excellent draw.
