FRIDAY, 10am: Melton RFC Under 11s made a positive start to the season by finishing a well-deserved second in their group at Kesteven.
They began with a strong 10-0 win over Sleaford. Melton competed well with good early possession, Jack Plowman opening the scoring after a well-orchestrated set move.
Melton also dominated the second half, defending superbly. Following a consistently strong scrum, Jaime Legg sealed victory with Melton's second try.
A more even match against Market Rasen made Melton up their game. Superb tackling from Tom Folwell and great runs from Ed Hobill were the highlights of a point-less first half.
Melton came out strong in the second half with more powerful scrums. Fast hands from Legg gave Joe McMenamin the space to score the winning try.
Melton conceded their only tries of the tournament against Oakham.
Fierce defence from Harvey Green, George Bagshaw and Toby Hutchinson saw Melton hold their own at 0-0 at half-time. But Oakham punished weaker tackling to score two second half tries.
The final game saw Melton battle to a 5-0 win against well-trained Nottingham. Harry Wood made several great runs and eventually scored the only try.

Final
MELTON 5 SLEAFORD 10
IN a closely-contested physical final, Melton performed well with good teamwork and defensive play.
Cain Reader kept the ball off the ground as Sleaford crossed the line.
Harry Bellamy did well in the lineouts and Henry Kaczmarczyk made good runs forward, but could not find a gap. Just before half-time Sleaford broke free to go ahead.
The second half produced more fine rugby. Relentless tackling from Connor Boylan and Richard Ward thwarted Sleaford before Melton drove Sleaford into their own half.
Tom Evans made a fine tackle on the line and Sleaford were lucky to be awarded a second try when the referee failed to see Melton touch the ball down behind their try line.
The ever-determined Harry Cank broke to score, but at full-time Melton had to settle for second.
