FRIDAY, 3pm: Leicestershire Under 18s rugby side made a perfect start with Melton RFC figuring prominently.
Melton boasted six players in the starting line-up for the county's opening match in the Midlands Under 18s Championship at Long Buckby on Wednesday evening.

Having finished bottom of the group last year without winning a game, Leicestershire banished any chances of a repeat by inflicting a rare defeat on East Midlands.

Melton and Leicestershire skipper Marcus Badham led by example as the hooker crossed for a try in a 29-15 victory.

Other Melton starters were second rowers Will ward and Zach Higgs, blind side flanker C. Commander, centre Matt Fisher and winger Jordan Curtis.

Syston RFC's Kieran Stone and Ryan Oakes, of John Cleveland College, were the other Leicestershire try scorers.

Fellow John Cleveland College student Joe Glover contributed 14 points with four penalties and a conversion.

Leicestershire aim to maintain their momentum against Notts, Lincs and Derbyshire at Newark on Sunday (2pm kick-off).
