FRIDAY 10AM: Holwell Sports FC Reserves capped a fine season last night when they won the Leicester Fencing Trophy with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over St Andrew's.
The League Cup success comes on the back of the team's promotion to Division One of the Leicestershire Combination following a superb unbeaten run stretching back to before Christmas.

Having seen off teams from Division One in the three previous rounds of the competition, hopes were high that Holwell could do it again in the final at Kirby Muxloe's ground. However, they received a setback on 15 minutes when they fell behind against the run of play, keeper Rich Gordon making a fine save from the initial shot but the rebound falling straight to a St Andrew's forward who made no mistake.

Holwell looked the far better side throughout and on 25 minutes were rewarded for some fine play when a defender handled in the box and Leigh Fox made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Graham Wells was giving his marker a torrid time down the right and seconds from the half-time whistle, a great piece of skill saw him weave his way into the area before unleashing a low shot which beat the keeper at his near post.

Play was more scrappy in the second half as St Andrew's grew more and more frustrated at not being able to get back on terms thanks to some fine defending. And their task was made much harder when they had a man sent off for raising his hands.

Holwell missed several good chances to seal the game, but then with just five minutes to go, a superb through ball from Chris Hibbert split the Andrew's defence wide open for Nat Price to run on and confidently shoot past the keeper.

And in injury time young Price did it again, outpacing his marker to plant another unstoppable shot into the corner of the net and trigger wild celebrations from the Holwell bench.
