TUESDAY, 9.45am: Holwell Sports Reserves pipped rivals Asfordby Amateurs Reserves to the second promotion spot after a dramatic final day in Leics Combination Division Two.
After both sides landed victories on Thursday night, Asfordby 4-2 at home to champions Ellistown and Holwell 3-0 at bottom club FC Khalsa, the Welby Road club led Asfordby by two points and with a better goal difference.
But Holwell faced a tough trip to top five side Ashby Ivanhoe Reserves, beaten once at home all season.
And with Amateurs looking likely to net three points at Khalsa, the pressure was on to avoid a repeat of last season when defeat saw them slip out of the top two on the last day.
Asfordby Amateurs bagged the win they needed as they dispatched Khalsa 4-2.
And in a tense match, Holwell were pushed all the way to the final whistle before edging a seven-goal thriller 4-3 to guarantee second spot and promotion to Leics Combination's top tier.
