THURSDAY, 5pm: Holwell Sports rued missed chances as they slipped to an unlucky defeat at home to Quorn last night.
Quorn, who play in the Unibond South League, scored once at the beginningof each half in a 2-1 victory at Welby Road on Wednesday evening.
Niall Prenderville scored Holwell's reply late on, but by this time they had squandered a hatful of chances with one effort hitting the post.
But the display showed encouragign signs for the Adfordby Hill club and was an improvement on their 3-0 defeat in their opening pre-season friendly at Boston Town on Saturday.
Holwell faced tough opponents from the United Counties League Premier without last season's leading scorer Scott Mooney.
They were well beaten by the hosts, who play at step five of the FA's non-league pyramid, but had a goal ruled out and also hit the woodwork.
The Asfordby Hill club continue their preparations for life in the new East Midlands Counties League with another tough assignment against Midlands Alliance side Rocester on Saturday.
Their pre-season culminates with two home friendlies against more UCL Premier opponents, against Sleaford Town on Wednesday evening and Huntingdon Town the following Saturday.
