FRIDAY, 1pm: South League champions Holwell completed their season with a home draw in the play-off final against Blaby and Whetstone.

The visitors fielded six regular Senior League players and several county representatives and Holwell knew they were in for a stern test.

The hosts started far sharper and more inventive than Blaby with Edmands and Hendey dominating their much vaunted midfield.

Radford and Keightley were a constant danger on the flanks, but Holwell squandered four good chances.

Pallett shot just over for the visitors, but Holwell took a well-deserved lead when Tinsley latched on to Radford's fine pass and finished strongly past Smith.

Blaby were in disarray and lucky to still be in the game at half-time as Keightley, twice, and Cowling went close.

The second half saw a completely different Blaby as they pushed Holwell back for the first time in the match.

Goddard, Cooper, Spencer and Skinner defended heroically, denying Blaby any clear-cut chances.

Keeper Humphreys saved well from Wesson, while Ivens' great strike hit the bar before Holwell's defence was finally breached when Pallett's powerful shot from the edge of the area gave Blaby a deserved equaliser.

Holwell were presented with the league trophy after the game having lost only two games and remaining unbeaten since October as top scorers in all three divisions. They can be proud of a job well done this season.

Holwell: L. Humphreys, Z. Goddard, T. Cooper (c), D. Spencer, R. Skinner, Matt Hendey, N. Edmands, D. Radford, W. Keightley, M. Cowling, M. Tinsley, J. Maddocks, L. Prenderville, N. Clare.
