SATURDAY, 11am: Holwell Sports Bowls club progressed to the quarter-finals of the County Cup after beating Hinckley Sweet Pea BC by 11 shots.
The game was played in a two rinks home and two away basis. The away leg was a one-sided affair, while the home tie saw the rinks shared.
The quarter-final will pit the Asfordby Hill-based club against Birstall on Monday evening.
Rink scores: David Brown, Dennis Pearson, David Reek and Chris Rodgers beat R. Beardsmore 25-13; Eddie Tracey, Richard Batsford, Mel Bass and Neil Hope beat K. Chamberlain 28-14; Anthony Wright, Jack Rudkin, John Robinson and Stefan Packwood lost to A. Inffe 9-30; John Keightley, Ian Packwood, Matt Bass and Ian White beat J. Smith 21-15.
*Holwell Sports are inviting along anyone who wishes to try bowls to turn up on any Friday evening. Bowls will be provided.
The club, situated next to Holwell Sports FC on Welby Road, competes at all levels of the game, and boasts two England internationals.
Those who decide to join will get next season's membership free as will existing bowlers, except for former Holwell members, who join from another club.
