FRIDAY 2PM: Hamilton Tennis Club's first mixed team ended the season unbeaten after seeing off Gynsill I 7-2 and are now hoping for promotion to Division Two.
Peter Thorpe and Tracy White and Ed Blake and Charlie Griffin won maximum three sets and Tom Keep and Margaret Roskell chipped in with one set.

The foundation for this season's success has been a more settled team with ever-present Peter Thorpe's 100 per cent record the highlight. But a team is only as good as its reserves and victories could not have been achieved without the contributions of Tom Rowe, Carol Gilchrist, Sue Corfield, Carole Bendle, Jo Heggs, Andy Douglas and Ash Patel.

Peter Thorpe and Tracy White W9-8, W9-4, W9-5; Ed Blake and Charlie Griffin W9-3, W9-3, W9-2; Tom Keep and Margaret Roskell L4-9, W9-8, L8-9.

* The mixed second team won 8-1 against Victoria 2, with Bol Boniewicz and Carol Gilchrist and Nigel Haynes and Beth Lowe claiming maximums, while Doug Hacking and Jo Heggs won two to complete their second win of the season.

Doug Hacking and Jo Heggs L6-9, W9-4, W9-3; Bol Boniewicz and Carol Gilchrist W9-8, W9-0, W9-2; Nigel Haynes and Beth Lowe W9-8, W9-2, W9-6.

* The third mixed team recorded a close 5-4 victory over Holwell 1 with a maximum three sets by Simon Blake and Christine Stanley including a tie-break against Tom Holmes and Linda Hallam which clinched the win.

One set each from John and Margaret Heggs and Nigel Keep and Juliet Keep completed the scoring in a match which could have gone either way.

John and Margaret Heggs lost to Tom Holmes and Linda Hallam 4-9, beat Stuart Bartram and Kelly Hunter 9-2, lost to Bruce Baxter and Rosemary Baxter 5-9; Simon Blake and Christine Stanley W9-8, W9-2, W9-6; Nigel Keep and Julie Keep L6-9, W9-4, L1-9.

* Despite Sunday's poor weather, 24 ladies from Hamilton Tennis Club were determined that the annual Macmillan support tournament would be a success, raising more than £250.

Following two hours of non-stop action Rita Pike and Jill Musson emerged as winners of Group A, from Louise Smethurst and partner Margaret Glancy.

Group B was also closely-fought with Jill Woods and Carol Scrimshaw just edging out Betty Sharkey and Maggie Spencer by a single point.
In the final, Scrimshaw and Woods proved too consistent, running out 11-5 winners.

Macmillan committee member June Roper was on hand to thank the ladies and help present the winners with their prizes.
