FRIDAY, 11am: Melton school football teams did battle last week in memory of a football-mad former pupil.
The Steven Harris Trophy is played annually between John Ferneley School and LOng Field High School and was donated by the parents of Steven, a former Ferneley pupil who died in his sleep six years ago.

John Ferneley regained the trophy after beating Long Field in all three age groups during their recent North Leicestershire Schools League matches.

The matches were played at Mowbray Rangers FC with Ferneley hoping to regain the trophy from holders Long Field.

Ferneley won the Year 9 match for the second year running as comfortable 7-1 victors, while Ferneley's Year 8s continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 6-1 win.

Long Field went in favourites for the Year 7 game having won a pre-season friendly between the teams, but Ferneley turned in their best performance of the season, overwhelming their Melton rivals 6-0.

Steven's dad Michael presented the trophy to the three Ferneley captains Tom Rigby, Lewis Iron and Joe Pope.
