WEDNESDAY, 2pm: A hard winter's training paid off as Melton sprinter Emily Wardle struck gold at the Leicestershire and Rutland County Athletics Championships.
Emily was crowned county under 17s girls' 100 metre champion and buoyed by this victory also won bronze in the 200m.

The County Championships took place at Saffron Lane Athletics Stadium in Leicester on Saturday and Sunday in sweltering heat.

With sheer drive and determination to win the 100m, Emily powered out of the blocks taking a lead which she retained to the finish line.

Emily (15) is a member of Charnwood Athletics Club and trains with them at Loughborough University three times a week.

Last season the club presented her with the Charnwood Female Sprinter of the Year Award.

She has always performed well at Saffron Lane, last year landing 100m silver and going on to represent the county at the English Schools Athletics Championships.

This year she is aiming to beat her personal best of 12.9 seconds and represent Leicestershire and Rutland again at the national event.
