SUNDAY, 4pm: Holwell Angling Club fished a challenge match against Barnstone AC on the reservoir last Sunday.
It was surprising barbel were the dominant fish with a few carp and skimmers making up the weights.

B. Diamond (Barnstone) took the day's top weight of 19lb 15oz from peg 13 with Pete Wade (Holwell) second with 19lb 12oz from peg 21. Mick Brewster (Barnstone) took third place from peg 19 with 15lb 8oz, while Neil Halliwell (Holwell) came fourth with 14lb from peg 14.

Holwell anglers Steve Fletcher, Rob Ellis, Rob Shuter and Jon Baker won the four sections, with Holwell winning the challenge with 78lb 10oz from Barnstone's 61lb 8oz.

*In Holwell's Thursday evening match, the top catches were also barbel.
Colin Way won from peg seven with 21lb 8oz with Derek Jones second with 14lb 4oz from peg 17. Paul Turner was third from peg one with 13lb 14oz.

*On Sunday, Holwell fish the Buffs charity match on the reservoir. The draw is 8am, to book call Paul Turner on (01664) 812723.

*The Asfordby and Melton Society of Anglers' open match at Frisby last Sunday attracted 22 anglers.

Dave Petch (Quorn-Van-Den-Eyne) was the winner from peg 76 with three tench and 10lb of roach for 22lb 5oz.

Alan Holton (Garbolino Lincs County) was second with a mixed bag of 14lb 7oz from peg 12 and Dave Clayton (Leicester Sensas) came third taking 12lb 14oz of skimmers on the tip from peg 55.

John Wells (Matchcatch) took 10lb 9oz of roach on hemp from peg 10 for fourth.

*Asfordby and Melton's Thursday evening match winner was Steve Fletcher with 7lb 12oz of roach from peg 11. Kev Marshall had 6lb 8oz from peg nine for second, and Gary Seymour was third from peg 12 with 6lb 5oz.

*Boat anglers are finding fish out in the open water in the main basin at Rutland Water, while bank anglers have had good sport in the late evening on the Normanton Bank.

*Good numbers of limits came last week with all methods working well taking fish in the 3-4lb bracket. The week's best fish weighed 6lb 2oz and the rod average was 3.2.

*Grafham Water has fished well again for boat and bank anglers with the vast majority of trout caught in the top four feet of the surface on small lures or nymphs.

The south shore was the best spot for bank anglers because of the brisk southerly winds, but this didn't stop them catching on the South Dam, Plummer Park and Gaynes Cove, which all produced good catch rates.

Boat anglers have enjoyed superb sport with plenty of trout caught in most areas. Rod average was 4.2.
