FRIDAY, noon: King Edward VII School has appointed its own football development officer to provide Melton pupils with the finer points of the beautiful game.
After the refurbishment of the all-weather pitch at the school's sports centre, Derby County coach and scout Richard Meek was brought in as football development officer, taking up his duties last month.
It is a brand new post funded by the Football Foundation and Leicestershire FA. The role of Richard, who has been involved in football development for 15 years, will be two fold.
Firstly he is to develop more footballing opportunities for the local community to use the all-weather pitch, not only in a playing capacity but also through training of coaches and referees.
He has also been charged with organising and running coaching sessions for women and girls in the county.
On Tuesday, May 27 Richard will be holding a free soccer fun day for five to 10-year-olds on the all-weather pitch.
A total of 50 free places up for grabs to take part in skills, games, target shooting and the new 'soccer wave' to improve your skills.
Places must be booked through the sports centre on a first-come first-served basis.
The following two days there will then be a two-day soccer course for five to eight-year-olds and nine to 13-year-olds also on the all-weather pitch to improve individual skills and team play for all abilities. Children can attend on one or both days at £10 per day.
*To book, call (01664) 480576 or visit the sports centre.
